Attorney Robert C. Anderson has been practicing estate planning, elder law, and tax planning in the Upper Peninsula for more than 35 years. Anderson is one of Michigan's 19 Certified Elder Law Attorneys (CELA). He continues to practice law at the Law Office of Robert C. Anderson. He graduated from Georgetown University with a Masters degree in Taxation and received his law degree from the Michigan State University College of Law. Then, he went on to do training with the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), where he served on NAELA's Board of Directors. The CELA designation is sponsored by the National Elder Law Foundation (NELF) is accredited by the ABA and is the only national certifying program for elder law and special needs attorneys.
Anderson's passion is solving the legal problems of aging Americans, which came as a result of his father's Parkinson's disease. He is nationally recognized for his break-through advocacy and presentations on preventing disharmony among family members, preventing financial abuse of aging Americans, the new living will legislation in Michigan called, “Physician Orders for Scope of Treatment", maintaining and updating estate plans, preventing unnecessary taxation of estates, and designing long-term care insurance.
Anderson is a member of NAELA's Council of Advanced Practitioners (CAP), former President of the Marquette County Bar Association, past Chair of NAELA's Tax Section, a member of NAELA's Ethics Committee, a former member of the NAELA News Editorial Board, and a member of the Elder Law Sections of the State Bars of Michigan.
Anderson has served on the Marquette County Commission on Aging and the Board of Citizens for Better Care of Michigan, a statewide group advocating for nursing home residents. He has also taught as an adjunct professor of tax law at the Business School of Michigan Technological University. Bob is an award-winning writer, having received NAELA's John J. Regan writing award in 2009 for his NAELA Journal article, Estate Planning with Non-Qualified Annuities - Navigating the Labyrinth.
